Head lights

I noticed that the right headlight is far brighter than the left so I decided to change the left with a new one and onced replaced it is still the same...it is a lot less bright than the right..Is this normal?

supramacist 06-18-2007 06:24 PM

Did you swap it with the right bulb???

Yeah I did, made sure of that...

I think he is asking if you swapped the left bulb over to the right side and right over to left and see if the brightness goes with the bulb.

also see if you're headlights are aimed correctly. One could be aimed higher or lower than the other. Drive up to a wall of some sort when it's dark out (garage door works well), park about 15 to 20 feet away, and look at where the beam concentrates at for each headlight. If it's about the same distance up from the ground, then they're pretty well aligned.

oowee623 06-18-2007 11:36 PM

did you check your fuses it might have blown its near the battery

cre 06-18-2007 11:44 PM

Alignment is a possibility.

Usually it's wiring.... 20yo OEM 18ga wiring.

I rewired mine to run off the batt/alt and ran all new 10ga wire with new clips for the bulbs and my headlights are bright as day.

supramacist 06-19-2007 12:12 AM

Ya switch the bulbs around for sure. It could be the bulb is mis-marked.

Allighnment is another good one because that will make 1 look more bright than the other one. I am guessing you have one that is noticeabley brighter than the other.

And just plain old crappy wire. Voltmeter time. Check the amperage running into and out of both sets of wires.

Fuse??? I think both of the lights would be out if a fuse was blown but that's just an opinion.

Did you touch the glass of the bulb during install?? If you did it could be trying to go out prematurely if you are running hallogens.

oowee623 06-19-2007 01:12 AM

no, theres a fuse for the left side and a fuse for the right side

ebang 06-19-2007 03:09 AM

I will do some checking, but to add,.... when I turn on to high beam the one that is really low almost goes off completely.

supramacist 06-19-2007 03:17 AM

Well that says : a lose ground wire or a short. That's not the bulb.

ebang 06-19-2007 05:03 PM

how and where do I begin to troubleshoot this?. I checked the wireing diagram but could not figure it out

supramacist 06-19-2007 07:02 PM

If you have the diagram, you can figure it out. And if you have the diagram and can't figure it out......, you need to figure it out because if you can. You won't have to ask these types of questions.

Start by checking all of your grounds. You shouldn't need the diagram because the wires from the bulbs are blatantly obviouse.

Take your time do it with the intention of learning how to service your ride.
Make it relaxing. Keep it light and fun. Don't rush.
You may also pull a search. I know you are not the 1st person ever in the history of this forum to ask that Q.

Good Luck and have fun.

ebang 06-19-2007 07:21 PM

I'll will certainly try...for me at least, those diagrams are not always too clear....but I'll get it going

supramacist 06-19-2007 07:29 PM

I'm not trying to be a dick, dude.

This is a simple thing that will be good for you to figure out. Just give it an honest try first. You're going to want to trace everything you can.
You can't mess this one up is also a very good reason.

Get a volt meter.

Supramacist is probably right i fix my ground wire on my left side and now its brighter then my right so try just checkin the ground
