Noob with '89 - shaking at idle..
HI. I'm new to this forum. My sister has an '89 Toyota Supra hand-me-down from my mom that is having problems with shaking at idle. It is an intermittent problem that comes and goes. The car runs fine except when at a stop it will shake. Car also is running sluggish even with 10 degree timing. It seems like it has always been sluggish even when my mom bought it brand new. Not sure of that has any relation to the shaking. The cylinders pressure check is fine. Changed out the idle sensor. Any ideas what it may be? Maybe some common problem? :dunno: Thanks

Any codes? Maybe 31-AFM?

Where is the vibration coming from. The front or the rear?? Gearshift maybe?
Any rate if it's the front I would say you should check your plugs wires and airfilter. That should pep it up. Get msd wires and iridium plugs and a quallity gapper. Get a blaster coil and a walbro fuel pump and you should be straight. Also sluggish: when was the last time you looked at your cat? If it's clogged you'll lose torque. |
id had this same problem, im pretty sure mine came from the front, i think it was becasue when i igot my first BHG i "fixed" it my self and ended up forget to put osme brackets from the turbo to the body and from engine to turbo and i think one that was engine to body or soem thing , soooo maybe check to see if all yoru brackets are there

This is a non-turbo Supra. As for the shaking, the whole car shakes. I should mention that the car is shaking because the car is on the verge of stalling at idle.
Do these cars have a comp system that throws codes? I didn't see anything on the dash indicating some issue. :dunno: |
when was the last tune up done?....lif you dont know...just throw some spark plugs and wires maybe cap and rotor on that baby.....if no one knows i would say its time to do it......then maybe you can diagnose it properly....

and if that dont fix it.....get some one to check back pressure on your exaust system....a clogged catalitic converter will do all those things you mentioned...
