Clutches
 

I have a 87 NA and i have the motor out and replacing it with a used japan one. The clutch thats on the old motor it has a 149,000 miles on it and i dont wanna put it on the new one. Im gonna replace it, I plan to be driving mainly in the city, and some weekend racing. I think that a oem clutch would be ok but, I know nothing about clutches so i have no idea what would be best for me. Can someone give me some opinions on what kind i should get.

They have to be really really good to make one clutch to last 149000 miles
Even with regular driving

But if ur keeping ur car stock
U can use stock clutches
But getting sumthing like an exedy stage2 clutch will give u a little more durability

What about just upgrading the pressure plate and using a new OEM clutch disk?

i think stock is pretty good, aisin did build a beefy ass transmission, aka the r154 right?

If you go oem go toyota oem.

I replaced the clutch in my 91 na before the bhg.
I bought it from o'rielly's. It isn't enough clutch.

I went stock and i guess i drive to hard for it, it just started slipping and its only been for about 4500 miles but it only slips when the motor is cold.

If you dont frequently shift at high rpms (i.e. redline) or race, I would stick with stock cuz your daily driving will be much easier, however if you want to spend a little more, an exedy stage two would with a full disk face would be a great upgrade. Feels close to stock but can still handle an occasional street race. This is only true as long as your horsepower at your crank is not too much above stock like 300 max I would say. So whatever you do just dont go cheap and end up having to replace your disk in 10-20K. If you decide stock get the oem aisin clutch, if you go stage two get a exedy or something compareable. If you are planning on more ponies in the future, get a stage three. I run an ACT stage three and it is a bit harsh at times, but streetable with practice, it is a bitch in traffic. Good luck...
