..Rpm's drop until it dies..
So this supra has a nasty habit of idling out as in when I start it if I don’t have my foot slightly on the gas the rpm's drop until it dies, which is kind of a pain with a standard. The old owner assured me that it was because of the missing muffler and a lack of back pressure. It is a family friend that seems to know enough about cars but I would hate to buy it and a new muffler and find out its something else. Does that sound right or do you think that it could be due to something else?

Run a compression check and pull the codes.

happened to me before check for air leaks and tighten your intake clamps
|
slightly plug the exhaust to simulate backpressure?
|
check your plugs and wire that can be the problem too..that was my problem and yeah check the intake piping as well mines is loose righ now and it does it buh it wont die

Thanks for the suggestions I will check see what i can do.

hmmm, well id agree with everyone above, check the intake pipeing, IC pipeing if its turbo'd. also check all vacume hoses. a lacking muffler wouldnt cause it to drop the rpms hell alot of us are running with no cats and 3 inch pipeing and have no problems at all. if the muffler is plugged i doubt it would cause that kind of problem, if thats the case just chop it off. and put an exhaust tip on it. its not missfireing at all? any codes? <<< you need to put a paper clip or wire or somthing inbetween termainals T and E1 of your diagnostics box in your engine compartment... does it have the stock Bypass valve?

The tweezers from your swiss army knife, lol.
I used a 2 inch piece of 18 gauge wire that I used to wire in the Blaster coil. |
If it's not going into idle properly check the IDL switch in the TPS and test the ISC.
