Default ..Rpm's drop until it dies..

So this supra has a nasty habit of idling out as in when I start it if I don’t have my foot slightly on the gas the rpm's drop until it dies, which is kind of a pain with a standard. The old owner assured me that it was because of the missing muffler and a lack of back pressure. It is a family friend that seems to know enough about cars but I would hate to buy it and a new muffler and find out its something else. Does that sound right or do you think that it could be due to something else?

Run a compression check and pull the codes.

hmmm, well id agree with everyone above, check the intake pipeing, IC pipeing if its turbo'd. also check all vacume hoses. a lacking muffler wouldnt cause it to drop the rpms hell alot of us are running with no cats and 3 inch pipeing and have no problems at all. if the muffler is plugged i doubt it would cause that kind of problem, if thats the case just chop it off. and put an exhaust tip on it. its not missfireing at all? any codes? <<< you need to put a paper clip or wire or somthing inbetween termainals T and E1 of your diagnostics box in your engine compartment... does it have the stock Bypass valve?

The tweezers from your swiss army knife, lol.

I used a 2 inch piece of 18 gauge wire that I used to wire in the Blaster coil.

If it's not going into idle properly check the IDL switch in the TPS and test the ISC.
