Default Speed Cable

Hey guys, new here and helping out my buddy. He has an 86.5 supra with a broken speedo cable. Only one we can find is out of a auto(his car is 5speed)both non-turbo.

Will the auto one work?

If it is the short pig tail of the speedo cable then yes I have replaced one in the 86.5 I used to have and my current 87 there is only one part number for them and you can get them at the dealership for like 11 bucks brand new.

Default Speedo Cable

Is that the piece that connects to the dash?

The green part?

Yes the green part connects to the dash. That one has both parts, the longer piece and the shorter pigtail that connects to the transmission.
I just went through this and had to replace mine because of my pacesetter headers. Apparently the heat after I wrapped them with header tape melted the inside of the cable and it froze. I put a new cable on and it still didn't work. When it froze it also froze the gear inside the transmission which is a plastic gear and it wore a grove in the center of it and it was stripped. After replacing that it works fine. I also wrapped some heat tape around the cable where it runs above the headers to keep it from melting again.
