Arrow AC Removal

i had a few questions about my ac. i want to remove the ac. 1 because it wastes gas when you use it. 2 i drive with the windows down anyway. 3 its extra weight i dont need.

By removing the ac will i gain any additional horse power? im asking this because i know it will remove one pully as well as a belt. so im thinking thats one less strain on the engin.

And does anyone know where i can get a diagram of what exactly i can and cannot take out as far as the ac goes.

im wanting to take everthing out i can that has to do with the ac.

the more help i can get the better.

The AC pump has a bit of weight ,so it would be a tiny advantage to remove it ,but the most simple route would be to just remove the belt that drives it so it's not a drag on the engine. If you do go for full removal ,I just unbolted the compressor and hack sawed the hard lines off. IMPORTANT - The refridgerant is a potential hazard. I can't tell you exactly how to do it "safely" because I cut corners ,but you must be carefull when breaching this system if it is charged. The refridgerant has the potential to cause frostbite on contact and damage your eyes. It'll also be spraying out of there for a good 5 minutes too ,good luck.

Just remember its illegal to vent any AC system into the atmosphere so have it evacuated by a shop before you tear it down. You never know when a tree hugger might be lurking.

ha thats funny ^ i vented mine and yesterday i vented the ac from my integra
come and get me you tree hugging hippies!!

removing the ac doesnt add any real power as it only puts load on the engine when the ac is turned on. with it off the pulley pretty much spins freely. but like i said i took mine out casue i dont plan on using it. took out the pump, the condensor infront of the radiator, and the lines going into the firewall. i did it all when the engine was out though, and it was still kinda difficult to bend all the lines out, i had to cut one line. however im pleased with it as it gives more room in the engine bay and helps keep cool air to the radiator

Go ahead and take it out, but it won't really help save that mucg gas. I read a big article on it a while back, but this is the first thing I found on google:
http://money.cnn.com/2006/07/19/pf/s...llis/index.htm
But it probably should be taken into account that our cars are 20 years old, heh, so...

If you are deleting your ac for anything other than weight reduction. You are wrong.

No more ponies to playwith. You just lighten the load for what already exists.

I'm not a tree hugger, but......

I mainly just hate seeing people throw trash out of their windows of their car. People are in the state of mind "if i can't see it it doesn't bother me"

To each his own, but karma is karma
