Default auto to manual swap completed!!! but speedo doesnt work

i finished my swap finally, it took me 5 days but it could have been shorter but i had parts that didnt fit and i did it myself on jackstands, i finally got it to run yesterday, everything works perfectly but my speedometer doesnt work, is there a certain way to put it in? and is the end piece shorter on manuals? i dont to get pulled over and answer no when the cop ask how fast i was going,

The cable and gear in the transmission are keyed so you have to line up the key for it to work properly. Im not sure about the speedos being calibrated different between auto and manual though. I put an auto speedo in my car and its off by about 12 MPH but if I drive at 60 MPH for 60 seconds it go's
1 mile. Ive checked the speed with at least 3 cars theirs agree and mines slow.
Don't worry the cops know how fast you are going they just like asking that questions like that to get you talking and see how your acting. It doesn't matter if you answer yes or no to how fast you were going. I tried the "My speedo doesn't work" with the cops before and they said that its not required by law to work and I got my ticket anywayz.

Is the transmission a W58?
The speedo gear inside is probably different for the celica. When they design the systems the tire size transmission and differentials are taken into consideration. Im sure the diff is taller and the wheels are larger 14 to 16?
Go to the dealer and see if the output gear is different between the supra and celica.
Then only other option I can think of would be to go to a speedo shop and see if they can add a box to the outside to compensate for your setup. I had one on my K5 blazer but I took it off as it was leaking on a trip to Tahoe. When I removed it the speedo was off 1/10 for every mile slow.
Speedo shops mostly deal with trucks that go from standard tire size to super swampers or the like. Toyota trucks fall under this catagory so you should be able to get it done but be prepared to pay a couple of hundred or more.

you could try using a speedo healer...you could more than likely get this to work on your car...it's normally used on motorcycles, but im very sure it can be modified to work for a car.

Our speedos are gear and cable driven so the electronic device wouldn't work.

More news about the gears.
The MKII could have several gearing systems inside. You need to pull the output gear to find out what you have in yours.
The two gears offered inside the transmission that drive the output gear are 10 or 11 teeth shaped like a worm gear. There are different part numbers for the #10 gear in the supras but only one number for the #11.
There should be 2 numbers on the bottom of the plastic output gear such as 11 on top and 33 on the bottom of the bottom, or 10 on the top and 31 on the bottom of the bottom.
If yours says 11 33 then your screwed as far as changing the output gear.
The 11 33 is the same as the R154 transmission and its the only combo offered anywhere in the world.
The 10 and # offers more choices. There are combos of 10 35, 10 32, 10 31 for the 87-92 supra for the W58 twincam and for the Celica-Supra the choices are 11 33, 10 32, 10 31 for the W58 transmission and earlier 81-83 models had a 6 21 but Im not sure which transmission that is for.
If your is the 11 33 then the only option is to have a shop change the gear inside to a 10 that coincides with the matching output gear and see which one works for you or go to a speedo calibration shop and maybe they can put a ratio changer outside the transmission and change it that way.
Part numbers for the different items are as follows:

Plastic output gears with #10 metal gear combos.

Plastic output gear Metal drive gear

#31 33403-29145 #10 33481-22030
#32 33403-29125 #10 33481-22030
#35 33403-19235 #10 33481-14031

plastic output gear for #11 metal gear

#33 33403-29115 #11 33481-14071 (R154 8808-9305)

I just had a shop install the #11 with the 33 plastic in my W58 and my speedo is reading a little fast. I am going to do side by side comparisons with another car to see how far off it is but Im guessing about 7-8 mph fast.
I have the 3.91 LHD on my car and am running 225 55 ZR 16 tires. My odometer is fast about 2/10ths in 4 miles.

if its gonna cost me a lot more money then i can deal with it, its just a w58, i just have it cause i was bored of driving automatic and it blew out anyways, and it was only 60 bucks at the junkyard, i plan on getting and r154 anyways when i get a 7mgte or 1jz, that 7mge is not gonna stay in there forever i fear it has a bhg it overheated on the freeway twice for the last two days and ive been losing coolant since the swap, and the overdrive light blinks cause i still have the auto ecu. man theres always a problem with it but i refuse to let it go
