JDM engine
I am about to buy a 87 MKIII with 7m-gte with many features on it ( close to 350hp :D)
But I have a question: The guy who is selling it said he bought a JDM engine and swapped it himself on the car, and also replaced head gasket on it and put a hks MHG. Is there a way that I can be sure it comes from Japan and that he's not bs'ing me? I'm pretty sure he changed the HG because there was no sign of BHG. another question... stock tires on a supra are 225/50VR16? Anyone using something else that is cheaper in $$$? |
See if it has the egr system (although he could have removed it himself). Ask him to see receipts for the engine. If he bought the jdm engine from somewhere he should have receipts proving it is jdm. I think jdm throttle bodies only have one vacuum port coming off of the top becuase they don't have emissions. The usdm has two. Thats the way it is with my jdm and usdm engine. Other than that I dont know. I hope that helps.

and i dont know if this one applies but my jdm motor has the oil filter pointing to the side the usdm motor that i had, had it pointing towards the ground |
Also ckeck the Throttle body and compair to a usdm one and the t-stat housing neck might have 2 holes compaired to a usdm one with 3(for the bvsv) and like someone else said see if their is a EGR but really the person could have swamped all of this stuff.
Also make sure the motor has low miles like all of the JDM motors...;) J/K. |
well even if he did take off the egr himself
see how the block-off plate looks like if it sits perfectly to the manifold it might be a jdm engine or it could jus be a jdm intake manifold used with the motor but check the plates anyways, they might give you a clue if its a jdm motor and the pipe on the heater core it the driver-side is blocked off and the opening is on the passenger side its a jdm motor |
