whats burning?!
Yesterday as I was crusing on the freeway I noticed steam coming out from the gear stick, and I could smell something burning, like oil or something. However, my engine temperature was fine, and my oil pressure was fine too. And it wasn't smoke, it was steam. Now I'm afraid to drive long distances. Any clues?
It's a 5 speed '87 N/A.

More than likely you have blown a coolant line.
If you had steam come through your vents...., you may want to inspect the back of your head and block. Keep us posted. Good Luck. |

Check the oil level on your tranny becaue it sounds like your tranny is getting hot. It wont show up on your engine temp because that reads off your thermostat housing.

I opened my hood and found I didn't have an oil cap; I added oil the other day and I guess I forgot to put it back on. I'm sure thats what contributed to the smell. All my coolant lines and hoses seem to be fine.
