Opinions on Limited Slip

just wondering what gear ratio on the lsd's do you guys think are best?

Depends entirely on how you drive and what you want from the car. The taller the diff the better your fuel economy will be (at least on the highway). The shorter the diff, you'll see quicker acceleration but you'll also run out of gear sooner.

I am always reaching down to go into 5th.

Only to find I am already there.

I would go with a taller gear ratio myself.

I don't know the #'s.

Other than that a 6spd swap would be stellar.

You would have to change the gearing in most 6 speeds to gain anything. The couple people often talk about swapping in all top out with pretty much the same gear ratio as our 5 speed.... there are just more shifts in the middle.

i personally had the lsd with the 4.3 rear end, im getting up to speed very quickly and probley running around 2800 at 60 mph in 5th which is a fairly high rpms dor that speed, but for the few times im on the highway i like the ablity to accelerate quickly and driving around city streets in 5th and not worrying about stalling the car. i still get good gas miliage cause its an manual (for a supra) :)

Is your car NA? I would think a turbo vehicle would run that rear out too fast and wouldn't be able to harness all the power adequetly. Unless you on the track. What RPM are you at when your doing 80? I cruise at 80. I wouldn't want to be close to 4000 being that my car reds at 6250.

Bman86.5 08-10-2007 05:09 AM

Yes the car is a N/A and i do have some nice mods on the engine but i plan on goin to the 7mgte next summer after i make some more money, and it right now has more hp than a stock turbo and it does run out of gears too fast and around 80 im doing 3400 to 3800, also on my car i have it lowered for handaling and also little smaller tires for quicker acceleration, so that is why i don't have exact numbers, speedo saids 60 my gun saids 57 so if u care do do the math u can figure out the right rpms

Your smaller tires aren't helping anything. I'm running a 3.93 LSD and I'm very happy with it.

EDIT: By the way, if you go with a taller diff you're going to loose what acceleration you gained from the smaller diameter tires.

ya i knw the smaller tires run higher rpms, im not complaning, most of my driving is in a city where i don't go much above 45 anyways, and i enjoy the ablity to accalerate fast in a non turbo car when i do have the chance so gas is not an worry, for those few times i do get out on the freeway or country roads. Trust me, im completly happy with my set-up on gearing and wouldn't change it!
