hey i'm having a overheating problem on my supra.... it's happening for years now.... i can't go in the freeway because it causes my engine to heat up rapidly.... i've bought and swapped another motor on it and still the same problem.... nothing's leaking or anything... man.... please help me!!! is there any recalls on these cars???

sounds like you have the head gasket problem that is common with the 7m's. you should try putting in a new high performance head gasket or just buy the japanese 1jzgte 2.5L twin turbo.
|
:) well... this time double check on your head see if you got water n oil mix. if you do then you got bgh. if you dont have the mixture. its kool. but if i dont have water n oil mix. i will first flush the rad.tor first. and double check on my water pump and water pump fan. back in the day i use to have that problem in my mk2. hope this work for you. let me know how you get to work alright.

Stop by a repair shop and have them do a block test on the cooling system. They put some special blue chemical into their glass tester bottle, then they remove some coolant from the radiator, put the test bottle over the open radiator cap hole and run the engine for a few minutes, sucking in the air thats there. If the blue liquid turns yellow or green, you have a blown head gasket (very common on these motors), or a cracked head.
Me???first hand experience on mine!!! I also am an ASE Master technician. |

ok... enuf of the master technician stuff LOL
suprasux: pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee ask me to change ur username :( 2. try the block check as suggested above... when you did the motor swap what items on the car remained the same? did you get the radiator professionally flushed? new water pump? radiator cap? thermostat? clutch fan still healthy? do you have a waterfall sound behind the dash? have you done a compression check? there have been many many 7m owners that have got a mhg & arp head studs and prepped the head and block and not had any head gasket issues again.... the godly 1jz is not always the answer... it's a fashion statement imo |
hey i have a question too!
how much does it cost to replace a head gasket.... can anyone give me some price quotes? |
i took it to a shop and they said there was a hose that was blown that went through the head gasket and its expensive to fix not because of the parts, but because of the labor.... about 1 grand or so. im wondering if i should just take it apart myself and replace the hose..... any ideas or tips??

can you explain further what happened?

yeah heres the story.... we have had a 1990 mk3 for about 7 or 8 years now... and nothing has really gone wrong with it until the power steering went out. Then we stopped driving it for a year and a half or so... and started it up in mid september of 2004.... and everything else seemed fine except for the powersteering. Then we noticed that it was leaking anti freeze and looked like it was coming straight from the water pump, as if we had blown the seal or even the pump. then we took it in to a shop and had them take a look at it. They called back saying that the water pump was fine but there was a line running from the pump through the firewall and throughout the head and i may have damaged the headgasket as well.
