lex 550s boggin out near 3000 rpms?

got the lex and 550s and ive been playin with ignition timing a bit and fuel pressure but no matter what i do it seems to bog out around 3000 rpms sometimes a bit sooner its alright at idel when i rev it sumtimes makes a noise but not much its in all gears and my air fuel gauge flicks to lean when it happens

did you do an upgraded fuel pump? How much boost are you running?

night-rider 09-04-2007 02:59 PM

yes i ave a walbro fuel pump and aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator and before i installed these new parts i was running 11 pounds but now i havent been able to get past 8 it starts boggin out

How are you controlling your boost? Boost controller or shimmed wastegate? If you slowly accelerate will it run smoothly past 3000 rpms?

night-rider 09-04-2007 06:23 PM

i hbave a greddy manual boost controller set at thbe minimum setting it seems like if i accelerate slowly i can go past 3000 ive only taken it to ahbout 3500 cause i didnt want to pushb it also i put in iridium spark plugs could thbat make a difference perhbaps whben i get boost it blows out thbe spark? i thbink factory is platinum tipped?

supramacist 09-04-2007 08:37 PM

Ya the stock plugs were NGK platinums.

I don't think the iridium tips are going to cause you to bog.
The solution to that is a blaster coil.

Have you checked your fuel pressure regulator?

night-rider 09-04-2007 09:43 PM

i hbave installed a aeromotive adjustable fel pressure regulator and i ave tried different pressures and it seems to only affect it slightly my supra manual says at idle with vacuum hose connected pressure sould be 23-30 pounds i hbave hbeard from some people hbat with thbe 550 injectors you should decrease fuel pressure?

abhattan 09-04-2007 11:34 PM

If your running around 11lbs, you should up the fuel pressure to about 34 psi. For every lb of boost, a lb of fuel pressure. 3000 is right where you should be at full boost and if you are leaning out because of fuel pressure, that would probably make it bog. But I couldn't see it doing it that much. Check it any way. Did you check all of your piping and vacuum lines?

night-rider 09-05-2007 04:29 PM

i ave chbecked all my vacuum lines and thbey are all good and my pressure regulaer hbas a vacuum line to it and it automatically increases fuel pressure pound for every pound of boost , anothber thbing ive noticed it will do it at an idle it is hbarder to nitice but i can feel it hbere and thbere and it flickers to lean whben it hbappens , occasionally it will drop thbe idle down to about 500 and it will constantly show lean then ill rev it up and it will be normal again

It's kind of hard to say without me actually listening to it and experiencing it myself. If your timing is good, I would also check the cam positioning sensor or the crank sensor. Were the injectors used? If so, did you have them benched flowed?
