My guy has 155k or so. The Toyota mechanic and my mechanic say not to increase the torque of the head bolts. I do not race my guy and drive for pure pleasure alone. A spring day with the top off is priceless! The head on my guy was cracked and wonder if increasing the torque on the bolts was responsible?

Nah, the factory torque spec is WAY too low. Possible re-torqueing could do it IF done in wrong order but probably more likely overheating from a bhg or putting cold coolant in a hot motor would cause a crack?
Anyway, think mine's on 130k miles or so, engine rebuilt with all new bearings, pistons, rings & re-con head before I got it (p/o/ blew it up big time somehow, was bits of piston in car!), then h/g blew right away with factory specs & he abandoned it. only around 3/4000 miles between when I replaced h/g and torqued up nicely & when the turbo let go ages ago. Finally got a brand new turbo on it's way as we speak
