Hard Engine Knocking
ok, so ive been wandering around for a little bit as a guest, and ive seen a thread with about the same problem as me, but i dont think it matches up, so here goes
I just bought a supra not to long ago, when i start the engine, it has a low knocking, which matches rpm speed. (i say this because as i rev up, it gets louder and faster, also sounds like a bit of grinding, but im not 100% sure about that) i figured it would be sticky lifters so i tried cleaning up my engine, which happened to be dirty as all hell, it worked for a little bit, it wasnt as loud as before so i figured i cleaned out a nice bit of it, but im still confused as to what it can be, i took it to a tech i know, and he told me it was a shot wrist pin, but frankly im not inclined to belive him as i doubt his credentials. any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks. If it makes the noise with the engine under a load it is likely a rod knock. With the engine idling the noise should be very low or quiet, as the engine speeds up you will be able to hear it. With the radio off get up to 50 mph or so and coast, if it is a rod the noise will go away and return when you get back on the gas.

yea most likely is that then, you describe the behaviour of it well enough.
1 more question however, since ive ordered in a new 7MGE and im just planning on swappin 1 out for the other, would it be worth it to keep the old one and just mad build it up? i mean like go all out on it, or would just buying something like a 1J and tuning the hell outa that be more worth my time? |
Did you just order the 7mge engine straight through toyota and what did that end up costing you?
|
i actually ordered it through ebay.

Jesus Criminy.... i paid like 500 for mine

I paid $500.00 for the long block to fix my bad motor also. By the time it was done the total cost was about $2100.00. The only part that was not replaced during the switch was the head gasket. Since the switch the engine has gone over 35,000 miles and ran perfectly.

only problem im having is with this quebecan retard whos supposed to sell the engine, ive alrdy paid the bid and i think hes just jerkin me around. its kinda pissin me off, he doesnt give me a true tracking number, then tells me at the beginning of the week that its in my city. well 1 weeks gone an no engine, im really getting pissed off at him, to the point i think im just gonna cancel payment (gotta love paypal) and tell him to go fuck himself.
so where did u buy urs? |
I bought mine from a local engine importer who also did the engine switch. The mechanic only does engine switches so he really knows his way around an engine bay. The radiator was given a full flush and pressure test and the water pump was also replaced along with the timing belt. They don't want to give a garantee on the engine only to have an old belt or water pump blow the engine up.
Check the local advertisements for a company to buy the engine from if you keep having problems with the ebay guy. |
