Painting the mouldings.

Hey guys, just had a new paintjob done and the colour of the mouldings no longer match the colour of the car. How does one go about painting the mouldings or is it just worth it to hunt down new ones?

Depending on the condition of your moldings you could take them off and repaint them. All of them have a bolt or screw in them somewhere so don't just try to yank them off. In my case my moldings were falling apart...depending on where you live or you have a lot of money to bid on some from ebay, its either going to be time consuming or costly. In my case I decided to save money and spend the time hunting for moldings at local junk yards. After a few years of doing so I finally got a clean set of moldings to replace the old ones. I put them on after a new paint job and it looks great. I'm one of those who votes not to paint my moldings.

I would imagine some sort of plastic/rubber paint, the special kind that bonds to those surfaces, but if you could get a primer on them then you could use conventional paint.

i colour coded my mouldings. Just need a plastic primer. As long as there in good nick. Earlier models have metal inserts that can rust out

hold on guys there is no need to ruin ur cars. dont paint them, if u have the money replace them then do that, however it is big buck (one of mine cost $180). however, i restored the rest of them is by using wet sanding with a thousand grit then go to a buffing compound and then to a fine chrome polish and finally to a wax to refinish the surface, the molding color is behind a clear plastic and painting it will look like crap. don't ruin ur cars
