I have a sweet '89 Supra with a bad turbo. I've done a lot of work on the motor and seeking advice on which way I should go with the turbo... specifically, should I upgrade the CT-26 (rework the housing and larger compressor) or go with a completely new turbo?
This is a daily driver, but I've done the following to the 7MGTE: - HKS 2mm MHG - Ported and polished head - ARP head and rod bolts - JE pistons - 3" downpipe and exhaust - Apexi intake. I'd like to take advantage of this motor, but I don't want to get silly (keep it a fun, daily driver). I plan to upgrade the fuel system (Lexus AFM + 550 injectors) and stop there. I'd like to preserve the stock manifold/downpipe configuration, if possible, but willing to upgrade if necessary. Various companies say their upgraded CT-26 turbos (stage 2 / 3) offer outputs of 450 to 600hp. Realistic? (I hear 350 is max). Should I waste my time with an upgraded CT-26? **What is the best option for the car? A new turbo? Thanks for your professional advice!! |
i've heard best bang for the buck and power gains and 400hp is realistically achievable is the 60trim ct26
sounds like you've got a bit of a monster there ;) another thing i would add along with that turbo would be a 255lph walbro fuel pump & fuel pressure regulator... you'll need those specially with the 550's & lexus ;) |
i went with an upgrade
i have some before and after shots on my website http://www.ddmcse.com/turbo/turbo_upgrade.htm the place upgrades your turbo in 1 day . i think it was 600.00 i have the lexus afm but haven't implemented it yet so i still get cut off at this point i am a little over 300 hp at the rear wheels (dyno tested not guessing) |
