3" Open Downpipe or 3" Full exhaust?

Whats better when it comes to performance a 3" Open Downpipe or 3" exhaust?

ddmcse 09-24-2007 10:11 AM

both with a 3 " test pipe to replace the cat

redmaro 09-24-2007 01:41 PM

Yeah ive been running the open DP for a few days now and its a pretty big diffrence compared to stock. Now I just want to get a custom made elbow to bolt up on DP exit so the fumes will fire down. :)

Im running no cat btw.

silent killer

You REALLY need to run the exhaust out from under the car. Carbon Monoxide, an oderless gas, WILL come into the car. Then you will fall asleep at the wheel.

Been there, done that.

Another reason (besides water getting in) to have a good seal on the back hatch.

its gonna get annoying one of these days

Never really thought about the exhaust fumes getting inside the car,
I literally jus have an open downpipe on my car,
So my whole exhaust is about 3 ft long
Not that u have mentioned it,
The sleepy feeling has occured to me more than once when I drive with the top on my car.

Although its kick-ass when my top is off
I love hearing the exhaust, my turbo when its spooling, and my bov when it goes off

Those 3 combined is a sound to be feared
I want another 350z pull up to me so my "old car" can once again show that it still is a car, that would whoop their 25k-30k cars

New school will keep changing
But old skool will always be old skool lol

Same thoughts here. LOL

Im going to look into exhaust cut outs but they seem to be pretty pricey.

redmaro 09-24-2007 11:49 PM

What of you guys think of this 3" manual exhuast cutout? I would be able to run an open pipe when I want, and still keep my cheap ass Monza 2.5 catback.

You guys think itll work?

to me, and this is jus to me, not a fact, jus my opinion
cut-offs were popular when the import car's reputation was on the rise
lots of pple were using them to enhance the "sleeper aspect" of thier car
by being able to hide the cutoff and using it jus before the race

this is where it failed to me,
unless you buy those expensive cutoffs with the actuator
it wouldnt be a sleeper cuz u need to pop ur hood to take the damn cutoff out

Yeah that sucks that I have to get under the car to take the plate off. But the electric ones are to expensive for me. Theres also some that are controlled by a cable, but I heard they tend to leak.

west_side_supra 09-25-2007 07:50 PM

no go on the cable ones, i have one of those on my camaro and it leaked, rattled, and then the cable was also a pain to install, i recomend just savin you money up for a electric one. otherwise you be slapping yourself.

Yeah I heard that cable cutoff's tend to leak. I really thought about it and theres really no logic in buying the manual exhuast cutoff since im going to have to get under the car to open it up and in reality it would be the same as disconnecting my catback from the DP. So im saving up for the electric cutoff. Thanks for your input guys. :)

thats one i jus went with the open downpipe with my car,
the last season here mk3's have kinda built a little bit of a reputation
and not a lot of mk3's actually race around here

so seeing an mk3 on the line, ready to race
jus raises question like: was does he have, cuz he aint stock
with that question being said, they dont really underestimate or look down on the car anymore and considers it as a threat

so might as well give them a little bit, so no bullshit when it comes to negotiating the race

redmaro 09-26-2007 06:49 AM

Yeah, this past week that I was running an open DP I usually got the "I wonder whats he is running under the hood" look. LOL
