I had the same problem with my 86.5. When you try to start it does everything on the dash dim and does the buzzer kind of trail off or does everything just go dark. Also it may be your starter but I would check the easy stuff like battery terminals make sure they are clean and the connectors are tight. Then check to make sure the security isnt stuck on might be the starter cut off. Go out to your door and with your ignition key stick it in the door lock cylinder and turn it to unlock quite a few times then try to start the car. If that doesnt help check your fuses under the hood there is a fusable link that could be bad but you never know.

disconnect the power wire that goes to it, and the auxilary, or ign
forgot what the othersmaller wire is called, but its easy to see i believe the starter has two bolts, taking it off isnt hard, but getting down there is taking the intake manifold off would be really helpful
