Default Brake Fluid Dot 3 or 5.1

My brake fluid needs topping up as it is down to the minimum level. It says in the owners book use only Dot 3 but this is no longer available according to my local Toyota garage. They now only sell Dot 5.1. Can I use this in my '89 Supra?

Yes they still sell Dot 3, go to your local Checkers or Autozone.

i thought dot 5 is sinthetic and cannot be used or mixed with dot 3..it will destroy your brake system....dot 5 if im not mistaken is only used in motorcycle brakes...

I'm not sure what vehicles use DOT 5; my 07 Kawasaki uses DOT 4

if your car has abs do not use dot 5. whatever is in dot 5 ruins the abs control module
