looking to get a supra
 

so i'm looking to either get a stock single or stock twin turbo supra but im not sure which one i want right now. eventually i would like to upgrade it to around 600rwhp or slightly more and im wondering whether the single turbo or twins would be better for this. also, is this amount of horsepower still ok for daily use? thats what i was hoping for with just casual streetracing. which one would be easier or cheaper to upgrade? from what i read i think the stock twins bpu would bring it up to around 400 horsepower but what about the single? i also think the stock tt is good for up to the horsepower im eventually hoping for but is the single turbo? last one, is buying a stock single turbo cheaper, on average, than a stock tt?

There's no such thing as a stock single mkiv. Sorry. They're all either twin turbos or non-turbo.

Also, the stock twin turbos won't do 600rwhp, so you'll be looking at a single turbo upgrade kit.

Yep 600rwhp is okay for daily use, as long as you run race fuel or meth injection.

The twin turbo (i.e. not the non-turbo) would be cheaper to upgrade to 600rwhp.

Yep the stock twins bpu+++ bring a 6spd TT up to about 400rwhp. With a single, the sky's the limit - 1500rwhp+ if you can afford all the upgrades (really!).

Again (since you asked the question twice), no the stock twins are not good to 600rwhp - where on earth did you hear that?

Since you can't buy a stock single turbo mkiv, for any price (since it doesn't exist), then I guess the TT is cheaper? :confused:

thanks a lot for that information, appearantly i like to read false stuff on the internet :) so the stock twins would basically only be good for up to that 400 horsepower and after that you'd need to put in a single turbo kit right? and i guess the single turbo supras i was looking at i assumed were stock but clearly weren't. thanks again!!

what are some differences between the import twin turbo and usa tt supra? do the imports, from japan for example, have slightly less horsepower? i think it'd be sweet to have the right hand drive but is there many differences between them?

Yep the japan imports have slightly less horsepower. The turbos, the intake cam, and the fuel injectors are slightly smaller in the j-spec. Other than that, no MAF, and the RHD thing, they're the same car.

Actually, with a very low mileage mkiv tt (i.e. 30K miles or less), you can pump out 450+rwhp through a 6spd. It takes several other supporting modifications to achieve this (referred to as bpu++++). After that (anything over about 475rwhp through a 6spd), you need a single.

so does it end up being worth it importing a supra rather then buy it here if its just for mere fact its a right handed import? because to do the bpu would you have to get 'import specific' parts? also i think i read that the turbos (or something im not sure) were made of different material? if this is the case is it possible to use parts not imported on the supra? or would i have to basically import everything both cosmetically and mechanically?

Yep the turbos are ceramic, which makes them slightly less durable, iirc.

Are you trying to convert RHD to LHD? If not, most 'bpu' parts for a LHD US-spec Mkiv Supra TT will fit a Japanese-spec Mkiv Supra TT.

I wouldn't recommend swapping out the ceramic turbos. Just drive the crap out of them, and upgrade to a single if/when you blow them. :)
