I want to buy a supra but a little confused on what to buy. I know the 2JZGE engines are good but I want to buy a nonturbo supra now and then in a year or so buy a turbo kit for it. Do the nonturbos have the 2JZGE engine or no? If not how much would it cost to do a complete swap?
I found a 1995 Supra Sport Roof with 122K with an asking price of $6k. It seems like a good deal, but what do you guys think? Thanks for all the help with this supra newb. |

the 2jzge is the non turbo
i'm not sure of going prices for non turbo mk4's there but surely it's not that cheap? there are turbo kits and manifolds you can buy to turbo it... just gotta tap in oil feeds and returns for the turbo etc anyone else wanna chime in?

depending on how you want to go about a swap, either you buy a completely new engine from toyota, suprastore or the like.or you buy a used low millage half cut bacause this would have everything you need for the swap(make sure if you go this rout that you buy a u.s.direct market cut or engine and tranny and ecu.do not buy the jdm ones, these have no egr valves for us emmision regulation and have ceramic turbo's that are more delicate than the usdm brother.plus the jdm has 30 less hp).the engine wiring harness on a jdm is shorter,so you'd either have to lengthen it to fit,or if you take my advice get the usdm and it will all fit much more easilly.cost of used swap involving 1/2 cut 2jz-gte over 4000.00 dollars plus more money for new parts if needed(clutch, machining flywheel, pluggs belts hoses, vac hoses, oil, gear oil, trans oil, coolant.),you will be nicked and dimed so watch what your doing.a new set up will pretty much cost you your soul, and an arm and a leg.if you just want to convert n/a to turbo suprastore.com has kits available for this ,they will only yeild about 400 hp max as the n/a engine boes not have a lowered compression,or as many large oil squirters as the 2jz-gte,thus it does not have as much power and durrability under stress as the 2jz-gte.a conversion for n/a to single turbo is around 4500.00.6000 is a little low,but if everything checks out(compression, brakes, suspension, electrical and a clear title)buy it.
