Supra Guru's - Help buying a supra please
Hey guys,
I am new to the forum. I recently came across an amazing deal and am just wondering what you think, if its a good buy or not... It's a 1999.5 N/A 5spd with 80,000kms white. The car has been in an accident and has no engine/tranny, but it has a clean title and the car is completely straight. It needs a windsheild, radsupport, headlights, engine and tranny. Also needs paint as it has new fenders and a new front bumper. The car has no rust at all, never winter driven and one small dent under the gas cap. Hes letting it go for $4000. I think its a great deal but then again I'm no supra guru. Now I have some questions about the parts this car will need. What engine and tranny should I look for? Should I keep the original and go with N/A or could I swap in a 2JZTT in there? Where can I source some of these parts that I need like the engine/tranny, rad support, windsheild? How much do you think I'm looking at getting this car together? I am a VW guy and currently own a mk3 1.8t big turbo. I've always dreamed of owning one of these cars and I don't want to pass something like this up. Anyways sorry for the long post and any help would be appreciated!! Cheers! |

Regarding the overall project, personally I'd recommend skipping it. Not only would it be a LOT of work, it sounds like you really want to end up with an mkiv that has the power, handling, braking, etc. of a TT. If that's the case, then that's what you need to buy, imho. The n/a is significantly inferior in many ways (see the numerous other threads on this topic).
