I have never myself had a car where something like this happens, but a friend of mine has. Check your alternator, change your fuel filter it could be clogged if you have not already, it could be a fuel pump starting to go. or bad plugs or wires. My friends car was a automatic Mazda 626 and it was her alternator but it might be different with your car. Some body like Mr. Nickeleye might be able to help you he is a supra specialist and I think a Toyota certified mechanic he is the man with these cars. When you do find the problem, post it I would like to find out what it was.

I hope it's not your oil pressure, it could be dying if you have no oil pressure.
Hopefully its not the problem or your looking at some problems.

your cheapest easiest bet is the fuel filter, i have had many cars die while driving and changing the fuel filter was the fix. good luck.

Code 42 says:
"No. 1 Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal (for A/T) No. 1 Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal (for M/T)" Looks like it's your speed sensor...or possibly a cracked solder joint in your odometer assembly (in the dash).
