Engine dies while driving
1995 na standard, all stock, has died twice (a month or so apart) at 10-20mph. seems like it has happened right after shifting (into neutral). all warning lights come up, steering locks. i have been able to restart on 1st try and everything works as normal. anyone had this happen before? would like to troubleshoot b/c it's obviously dangerous if your car just dies. any thoughts before i take it in would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have, own, or know much about the model car but it might be the idle speed control value not opening. Probably due to it being dirty or faulty.
Not even sure if it has a iscv but something similar. |

I have never myself had a car where something like this happens, but a friend of mine has. Check your alternator, change your fuel filter it could be clogged if you have not already, it could be a fuel pump starting to go. or bad plugs or wires. My friends car was a automatic Mazda 626 and it was her alternator but it might be different with your car. Some body like Mr. Nickeleye might be able to help you he is a supra specialist and I think a Toyota certified mechanic he is the man with these cars. When you do find the problem, post it I would like to find out what it was.

thanks for responses. i'll let you know what comes of it.....

I hope it's not your oil pressure, it could be dying if you have no oil pressure.
Hopefully its not the problem or your looking at some problems. |
your cheapest easiest bet is the fuel filter, i have had many cars die while driving and changing the fuel filter was the fix. good luck.

"No. 1 Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal (for A/T) No. 1 Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal (for M/T)" Looks like it's your speed sensor...or possibly a cracked solder joint in your odometer assembly (in the dash). |
ya i was thinking about doing the odo splice and seeing what happens. i can't think of anything else....
