Importing a Mark IV
Hey all, I am new to the forums and just had a few questions. I am currently stationed in Germany and am looking at getting a Mark IV before I leave here in the next year. I have plenty of options from over in England and just wanted to know what kind of restrictions there are on having the car sent back to the US. Also an estimate on price for having to get the car on par with US emission standards. I am definitely getting a right side drive version. Any websites or references you can provide would be of great help.

What I've heard you have to be more concerned about is whether or not the vehicle meets DOT side impact testing.

Taking a Euro spec car to the states is possible; however, you will have to convert it to US specs. I am not sure what all you would have to change on it but i would start with what state you plan to register it in and see if you can find some people in that state that may have done the same thing. Side panels and glass durabilities could be some concerns. |
