Terrible noise from the Drivebelt area
I went out to my garage and started up my 94TT and heard a terrible noise from the Drive belt area. My Supra has 134,000 miles on it and it has run great for the last 10 years.
As I pinpointed the area the noise was coming from it seemed to be coming from the power steering pump. After checking the fluid level, and the condition of the belt, I went to AutoZone and picked up some synthetic mobile one ATF fluid. I pumped out as much old ATF fluid from the power steering reservoir as I could. After replacing the fluid I started up my 94TT and drove it around the block a couple of times. The noise was getting worse. So Onto the next possible cause. My drive belt has about 50,000 to 60,000 miles on it so I replaced that. Luckily I had ordered one earlier this summer from Champion Toyota in Texas. When I had the belt off, I spun each of the accessory drive pulleys and the only one with resistance was the tensioner pulley. So I sprayed some graphite into the bearings and the noise stopped. I need to order a tensioner pulley because you never know how long this old one will hold up. |
