Default Squeeky Brakes?

I have some terribly annoying brakes that are really starting to squeek. I want to upgrade to Stillen Rotors and Metal Matrix pads, but dont quite have the cash for right now. I have stillens on my Jeep and love them and they would look badass on the supra since my wheels are so open. Any thoughts on a quick fix till I have the cash? Or better options on the upgrade?

Are you sure that they sqeeking because the pads are worn out? Note that pads can also squeek/squeal due to 'glazing', which can happen if your Supra is not driven aggressively enough. You can get glazing removed with heavy doses of brake cleaner and/or getting your rotors turned.

For most applications, stock pads & rotors are more than sufficient. When the Mkiv TT was introduced, Motor Trend said it had the best brakes of any production car they'd ever tested over the past 30 years (including Porsche, Ferrari, Vette, Viper, etc.). Stillen rotors might look cool but you won't get better braking power.

Unless you're a hard-core roadracer, and you're on the roadrace track at least monthly, ime oem rotors & pads will do the job for you.

Yeah I thought it was that to, so I started driving and stopping hard as hell and it still squeaks at stop lights. I was interested in the stillens at first because I have wraped so many sets of rotors in the past. (not a on the supra, however.) Maybe I'll just try getting them turned and maybe some new pads. The metal matrix pads would be ok with stock rotors, no? I do really think that drilled rotors would look best, because of my spoke pattern, but not good enough for the cost of the rotors.

Thanks for the reply, I cant wait to get it out of winter storage, and start troubleshooting that damn suspension we talked about this summer.

"Ok" yes, but do you want braking performance that is only "ok"? If you don't want to use stock pads, then your next step up is Hawk HPS.

Sure they'd look cool, but cross-drilled rotors aren't the best choice for braking power or longevity imo. Cross drilled rotors provide less surface area for braking, so performance is worse. Ime, they also tend to crack and warp more quickly when used with relatively powerful calipers (like the Mkiv Supra's).
