Default MK3 spare wheel fits TT MK4 car? (can a TT take a 16X7 rim)

Hi folks
Hi Phil (most likely you would be helping me here)

As you may know, the MKIV comes as follows in regards to stock wheel sizes.

MK4(na)_fr_16X8__50 offset
MK4(na)_r__16X9__50 offset
MK4(tt)_fr_17X8__50 offset
MK4(tt)_r__17X9.5__50 offset

I have seen an MKIV with sawblades once, and sawblades are 16x7.

But can a TT MKIV use a MKIII spare tire with a size of 16x7?

Thanks in advance for reading and any help you may offer.

I'm sorry I honestly don't know the answer to that offhand, and unfortunately I don't know of anyone that has tried it. I will ask some friends, and let you know if I find out the answer.

If you don't mind, I'm curious: why are you asking?

Thanks, Phil.

Well a TT owner & I were wondering if my MKIII spare would work on his TT.

Now here is some logic for you (fun logic exercise):
If all MKIII & MKIV rims that have the same height (16 in this case) also have the same inside dimensions (meaning the inside wall opposite the traction side) than the following must be true:

1) This spare tire and wheel will fit on a N/A MKIV.
2) If TT MKIV's that come stock with 17" rims can take N/A rims (16"), than this spare from a MKIII will fit.
3) If MKIV TT's have 16" rims for spares, than this MKIII rim will work.
4) If all MKIV's have the same sized spare (assuming that spares would all be 16" because Toyota won't make the "universal" spare a 17 because spares are always smaller), than this will work.

Other things to consider:
MKIV's and MKIII's both have the same bolt pattern (so that is not an issue).
I have seen a MKIV with MKIII sawblades which would be 16x7 (but we can not know if the brakes were stock nor if it was a N/A or TT model).

I used to study tests like that.
So for once, I thought I'd write my own example.

The logic goes pretty well, except that the MKIV TT spare is actually 17". I believe this is so that, if run in the rear, the LSD doesn't behave strangely.
