Default starting motor

been having trouble starting car past few days just getting a click click noise when turning key sounds like solanoid ( i think ) but today it sounded like the starting motor kept running after car started and when i turn car off and took out keys the car kept turning over , so took starting motor out theres two copper brushes under a steal plate cover these are very worn ,can i buy these on their own ?i think that was cause of car not starting but why do you think it kept turning over when i took keys out ? ignition problem? any opinions

I know that Toyota sells a starter rebuild kit, and I believe it includes a new set of brushes. In addition, I'm pretty sure that the kit is very affordable.

Regarding the continual-cranking problem, there's a separate circuit that triggers the starter. To be honest, I've never heard of this exact problem before on an Mkiv Supra TT, but I believe the TSRM has a set of diagnostic steps to troubleshoot this symptom.

Of course, I'd also welcome the input of any other forum member that has experience with this type of issue...

I have. On a Ford. Don't know the exact reason why, but I replaced the whole starter motor/solenoid assembly and it was fine.

Edit: And BTW I had to disconnect the neg. battery cable from the battery to get it to stop.

That brings up a great point. Based on your description of the problem Dom, a bad solenoid is a likely source of the problem.

IHateHacks, thanks for your post, and the info you provided!
