Racing Engine Sound

Hey,
This is my first post on this forum.
I'm from Ireland & I'm a LONG time Supra fan. I've wanted one for the last 7 - 8 years now and now seems to be the time to move on buying one!!
I went to see one this wknd (1997) & the engine would race every 30seconds or so for about 5seconds.
Is it just that it needs a tuning or what would be the problem?
Also when I was driving it there was a bit of rubbing at the back when I went over any big bumps, the rims are 18", which I thought should nit be rubbing off the arches.
Is it just a matter of getting the arches rolled?

Also if there was any other things I should be looking out for when buying I would appreciate the help.

Thanks for any help,
James

It could be as simple as a vacuum leak. Are they running an oem ecu and the oem maf?

I prefer to cut them instead of rolling them (less effect/warping on the fender), but likely yes. Also likely they've got non-oem springs (i.e. the car is lowered). One other way to fix it would be to reinstall oem springs.

Be sure to do a compression test on the engine. Ideally, the test drive should be done by an experienced Mkiv Supra TT owner - someone that is intimately familar with it's performance characteristics. Other than that, a standard overall check by an objective mechanic (i.e. your mechanic, not one affiliated with the seller) is a good idea.
