Sorry to bring this back from the dead (especially as I'm a new member... hello everyone), but I've been looking into this for a bit now. Does anyone actually KNOW anyone who has imported a Supra? I have many reasons for wanting to import (some of which include that they are about half the price, they are RHD, and they usually have much lower milage). I am also in a unique position in that I can actually GO TO THE CAR and check it out before actually laying money down. So far I've found Japan-Partner to be a good place to shop, though I'm still like 4 hours from Nagoya. I need someone with experience in legalizing an import to tell me how much of a hassle it would be and how much it would cost.

I am just sending this out to any1 and every1 to see if anyone had seen or has or heard of someone who OWNS or SHOWED a Toyota Supra Right Hand Drive before. I have been trying to deal directly with some companies in Japan, but without an RI I am screwed. I have found some that run about 10k to purchase, plus import fees.

Peace ;)

They are cheaper but by the time it is made legal it will be more... Just by a usdm.

see, I'm not so sure, or at least that's what I'm trying to find out form someone who's actaully done it. I mean for example... there is a 95 supra SZ for about $6k with about 90k miles.
Now, as far as shipping is concerned, I've heard anywhere from 1500 to 2500 so I'll just say 2000. Ok so now we are at $8k, but that still gives me at least 5 thousand dollars to play with as far as making it legal before it's the same price as usdm.
Like I said, I don't actually know how much it costs, and if it's over five thousand dollars, I probably will just buy usdm, but until I find out, this looks like a much better deal.
