Hey. I just installed a Turbo kit onto my 1995 Toyota Supra N/A. I am haveing a few problems with it and was wodering if anyone knows why.
Turbo Setup:: T04E Borg Warner Turbo Custom Manifold HKS BOV and 50mm Wastegate Complete custom 2.5" Intercoolerpipeing Front mount Intercooler S-AFC II K&N Filter THE Problem:: Turbo spools up and boost fine. Car runs great and hauls ass. Dyno showed roughly 300hp. The problem comes if you run the car then push in the clutch, if you leave it pushed in the rpms will drop and the car will die. Also if you stop at a light the rpms will drop and die. You can save it by touching the gas and reving it up. The car works good and runs good but thies problem makes it unbareable. Any suggestions??? |
so she's na-t... are you still using the old engine harness & ecu?
sounds a bit like a boost leak o me.. are na's afm or map sensor? |
Yes its NA-T. I am running the old ecu and harness. I have installed a S-AFC II to regulate and controll air/fuel. It is a 95 so its running a ODBI Karman Sensor Mass Air Flow Intake.
Boost leak? As in somewhere between turbo outlet and throttle body there is a leak? |
yep.. could be anywhere between turbo outlet & throttle body... or the intake pipe to the turbo, if that's sucking in air...
dying when coming to a stop or pushing in the clutch is also a sign of the afm dying.. which is why i asked if they were afm or map i believe there's also a neutral start switch on the clutch which when faulty may also cause this... i'd probly check that out first |
:( ITs getting worse, now even if you dont drive it hard the idle is crap and she struggles to say running when its stopped??? Anyone know if maybe its the MAF sensor?? Im outta ideas here....might just have to toss er back to stock I cant find anyone intown that knows what to do.... :(

when it's idling rough, does it kinda surge, like try to come right then drop again?
again i say boost leak, it's just getting worse.. big leak, car isn't holding vacuum, car isn't getting enuf air to run it's only running on pure fuel does the car poke out with smoke when its doing this? |
Does surge a bit, fluxes around +-400RPM. What is the best way to check for boost leaks? I have the whole system hardpiped with silicone connectors on them. They seam to all be sealed. I have seen smoke a couple times after starting it when its taken a couple cranks to start. other than that I havent noticed any.
Could it be my S-AFC settings causeing the problems? (they were set to best fuel mixtures) Or maybe the stock Map sensor. I believe the N/A cars come with a 1 bar MAP sensor, that should be good up to 15PSI correct? Thanks A BUNCH for all your help :) |
CORRECTION:: Turbo Model is a T04B (if this matters)
|
well... i would guess that your diagnostics system will still work.. just won't include code 31, 34, that a turbo one will
but you could give it a try your diagnostic port should be in the engine bay there's a write up in the faq section on how to do a diagnostic, even tho it's for mk3's it will still apply to yours |
I had it doagnosed today. There is only 1 shop here that can do a 95 Supra :o The codes showed that the MAF sensor was bad or had a short. So Im now on the hunt for a new sensor.
I have heard the Lexus LS400 MAF Sensor will bolt right up and is better for handleing boost. Have you heard that??? |
