have 163k on trany and engine

when i recently bought an 88 supra non turbo i wanted to change the trany fluid and filter. i was advised not to do it. was told it would change the emaltions in the trany and was told to never change that when a car is over 100k. is there any truth to this. any coments would be apresiated
