Default LSD gear oil

I bought some of the Valvoline Dura blend simi synthetic formula gear oil. I have heard some synthetics are ready for use in a LSD with out the additive is this true? My next question is the valvoline ready or does it need the additive, it says on the bottle for conventional or LSD differentials and gear boxes. Will I need an additive? Also What does the additive do any way?

It appears by the label (and many oils come ready for LSD), implies you can put it in without additive. This is probably true.

The additive was needed for the regular oil to allow a little more 'slip' of the clutches (inside the diff) when making turns. So it wouldn't 'chatter', and wear out the clutches early.

If your diff has never been rebuilt, with new clutch pack, then the LSD is probably not working (worn out) anyway.

Where does a fella get a new clutch pack? I try to avoid dealers whenever I can to avoid markup. Any online suppliers?

Rebuilding a LSD diff is not something you will do in the garage. They have to be set up correctly, or you just blew a wad of $$.

You can find rebuilts on the net.

The TSRM tells you how to do it.
