Do I need to due more work??
After cleaning my MAF with proper cleaner, my 1988 turbo supra would not stay running and just ran like complete crap.. I was told that I may have got the cleaner in the air holes of the electrical part of the sensor and would have to buy a new one. Searching the entire web I could'nt find any place where I could just buy the electric sensor alone and would have to buy the entire MAF for about $400.... I later read that the MAF for a 1994 Lexus LS400 is a great upgrade for this year turbo supra because it has a larger body.. So I now have the Lexus MAF and it bolts up perfectly... ONE PROBLEM... I just read that if I install this MAF, due to the much larger volume of air, my engine will be running too lean and will be damaged.. I've read that in order to use this MAF I will have to put 550cc injectors, get a new fuel pump and fuel pressure regulater and hoses, about 1200 dollars in parts that I cant afford... Does anyone know If what I've been told is correct or has anyone done this MAF change before?????

this is correct . you need both upgrades to avoid possible leaning out .
the supra runs rich by nature but you could be pushing it fuel actually lubricates the engine, you should get an Air/Fuel meter installed to measure while running |
Thanks for the advise, think you can give some more?

take your time , do not rush
research research research i would not use the lexus AFM without the injectors especially without an Air/Fuel meter at this point with your cars i would get it to a dyno so you get some kind of base line numbers to compare with down the road are you hitting fuel cut off now ? i used majestic turbos and really liked the job they did in 1 day turn around time i think it cost me about $600 mine is for sale now http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...html#post60516 |

wait a minute. YOU DO NOT CLEAN THE MAF. everytime i hear someone say they cleaned the maf it is followed by 'my car wont start'. you will probably need to replace the sensor. the lexus upgrade is possible because it uses the same electronics, but it is 25% larger, allowing 25% more air. to balance the fuel mixture, larger injectors are used, specificly 550's because they are 25% larger then the stock 440's. replace the sensor and your car should be fine, or get the lexus maf, 550's and a wideband gauge to moniter your a/f's.
