Hi, I currently own a 91 mustang gt 5.0, but am looking to buy an mkIII.

So far, the best one I've found is a 1990 with 107K original miles and 60K on a JDM 7m-gte . The guy put in a mhg with arp bolts after machining the heads. I wanted to know what the JDM engine is? and what numbers it puts down? is it better than the stock engine?

What common problems should I look for? and is $7,000 a reasonable price?

Any help is appreciated.

the stock mkiii turbo engine has more hp than the 91 5.0L mustang

JDM is japanese domestic motor

my setup is basiaclly the same as what you are looking at..
i thought it was way cool to have the engine imported from japan and all
but if i was to do it again .. i would tear down the original engine and rebuild it .

Man, if I were you wouldn't buy any MKIII over $5,000 with the year under 1990 with at least 120 miles on it and with head gasket problems. That Supra will have a gasket blown up soon.

I would buy a 1991 Supra for $5,000 if it's under 100,000 miles. Have a metal head gasket, car in great condition, new tires, rims, and the engine looks like it has been kept clean.

My Supra is working fine for me but I'm having some rust on it, some engine problem even though my new metal head gasket has been replace at 120 k miles and now the car has 173,000 k miles on it now.

I'm planning to fixed the rusted parts. Buy a new engine, buy bodykits, rims, tires, and paint the car all white even though my car is white. I want my car to shine like brand new again

^ ummm the engine already has mhg and arps hehe

jdm = japanese domestic market

if it's absolutely perfect/mint/unbelievable brand new off the showroom floor condition then maybe
but i would try to haggle him down a bit

oh and also... try finding a 91 lol.. they're not overly common

do you by any chance know what the head was torqued down to? it should be 82-85ft lbs

by him doing the headgasket it does save you doing it

Well I've talked the guy down to $5500. The mods include:

Custom 3" dp
Titan 3" test pipe
Custom 3" ex system
Autometer boost and A/F gauges
Short throw shifter
Blitz bov
MKIV Rims w/ new tires
power slotted rotors
Stainless steel brakelines
Eibach lowering springs

JDM 7m-gte engine: HKS mhg, arp studs, valve job, new gasket set, and
machined head. (supposedly less than 60K)

He also installed a new clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder, which he says are a common problem with supras.

So far the problems I noticed were: a leaky t-top and an a/c pipe freezing over (what can cause this?) The car seets need to be patch and/or covered. The exterior is ok, no dents but the paint shows wearing.

So what do you guys think, does $5500 sound reasonable? What problem areas should I look for? What should I get inspected?

Sorry for so many questions, but I really don't know much about mkiii.

Also, he says that the car was inspected by a toyota master mechanic <_<

Toyota Master Mechanic? LOL

If he's a Master than he should be creating new Supra's.

Anyways, if you had seen the car already and what if you checked all the things that he said he moded already than it's all up to you.

Supra's are so rare these days, so just make a decision. If you say it cost too much than don't buy it, but if you want it really bad than GO FOR IT.

We're here to help you out only, not make decisions for you.

But yeah, good luck to you!
