New here... need help. blown turbo?
Ok so i just joined the forum, so i could ask your guys help. About a month ago i bought a 87 supra turbo. I have been driving it pretty hard, since its my first turbo car, but im always careful and never near redline. one day i was driving and i accelerate and my engine cuts power and there is a noise like a clown toy, or kazoo, so i press in the clutch and my rpms drop and eventually dies. my car still starts, but if i dont give it gas the rpms fall, it idles really rough and eventually stalls. if i rev it, it tends to cut out a little and makes the noise. coming from near the turbo, or potentially the turbo. there is a bit of white/ blueish smoke from the exhaust. i havent driven it since. i ordered a new stock turbo. im really lost here. i dont know what it could be. could you help me, maybe point me in the right direction? tell me things to look for? its not a blown head gasket, no milky residou, i checked for all that.
thanks in advance... =] |

The first thing to check is the four fixing nuts securing the turbo to the exhaust manifold, They have a habit of coming loose especially if the top or bottom turbo stay is missing. The exhaust gases leaking past the turbo/exhaust manifold sounds like someone drilling a brick with a masonry drill. White smoke could be BHG but the first indication of this would be the coolant expansion bottle filling up and eventually over flowing.
