mmm that happened to my friends s/c maxima...same thing except that the clutch didnt come back at all...it got stuck... for him the clutch only worked properly when the car was cold...otherwise the clutch would get stuck and he wouldnt be able to shift...i dont think he found the problem yet, i was thinkin there might be a problem with the the pressure plate...or the clutch lines

Clutch system could be low, check the fluid. If there is air in it, it will need to be bled. Spring on the peddle could be broken. Throw out bearing could be sticking, flex plate could be extremely warn, ect, ect. If it's not the fluid or spring, get it looked at by a shop, as if you don't have a lift, it's going to be a pain to drop the tranny and check the clutch system...

master or slave clutch cylinder is leaking . you are low on fluid check it . check the floor by the pedal for signs of leaking fluid .

you can play the fill it up game for a while but you'll get caught in the end .

most recommend replacing both master and slave

i replaced just the master on mine a few years ago ..

when you go to fill the fluid bottle make sure the little disk inside can move or it will block the bottom of the cup and you'll fill the cup but the bottom will be blocked by the disk keeping the fluid from getting to system

uh oh, I know first hand what this is, and it's not pretty. The clutch system on the turbo models work backwards from a normal clutch, instead of pushing in on the clutch cover, it pulls out. The release bearing is put in the center of the clutch cover, and the hub that the clutch fork grabs is put through it and secured with snap rings, snap ring breaks, you don't have a clutch

If you have a turbo model and you push the clutch in and it goes all the way to the floor and won't come back, well, the inside snap ring broke, and it's not going to be fun. It sounds like on your car that the outside snap ring might have broken, allow clutch movement, but a lot of free play.

If it's NOT a turbo model, it's a normal clutch system, it can be some other things. The clutch fork is held to the release bearing with 2 clips, if the clips are gone, you might have the same problem. Release bearing could be binding, clutch pivot could be broken, ect. Lots of reason, and the only way to tell is to start checking things.

Yeah, read this thread, and then the next day it happened to me, so not funny...
