New guy to supra

Anyway to tell a (jap) 2jz from a (amer) 2jz? New to supra world and have a guy selling a (jap) 2jz. I have a 89 non turbo 1jz and looking to upgade and wanna make sure I'm mot getting beat for my money. Thanks for any help.

First I would make sure its the right engine 2jz is normally the 2.5 twin turbo and there is no american 2jz we got stuck with the 7A turbo and reg. Second off if your like me I live in the smog nazi state of CA they wont smog you with 2jz so you cant drive it off the track stupid laws but I am stuck with them.
