supra overheating

my supra is overheating.. i drive it for half a km and she's up near the red on the gauge..initially i thought, thermostat, so i went and changed that, changed my coolant and gave it another go but still over heats quickly... im now thinking my waterpumps buggered. dont really have much of an idea about these things so any help would be greatly appriciated...
cheers

With so many BHG & high mileage on these Supras it not uncommon for the impellor to disintegrate, when the combustion gases mix with the coolant it turns very acidic and starts etching away at thin metal parts. Worth checking the water pump as you said. Cygnusx1

some quick fixs

Could be water pump check for blow head gasket by checking for merky white colored oil. check the radiator make sure its not cloged check the therm and fuel lines/filter for clog. I noticed a massive cool down with a K&N system lowered the overall heat by a ton. if none of that stuff works its prob your head gasket go have it compression tested at a shop.

Rad...fan clutch...both, all of the above :dunno:

I tried to skirt around the same issue myself, cost me a head gasket, rebuilt engine +.

I ended up with a good engine, 2 electric fans, reconfigured vacuum lines, plus an education!

Finally, just when I got it painted and brakes done... I pulled out of the garage and a guy slammed into me, totalling the car!

Ended up learning lots about these cars, lessons learned and paid!

Bought what I thought to be a parts car (sight unseen), it turned out to be a minty '82, my daily driver, and lotsa spare parts to boot! :o

Every dark cloud has a silver lining.
