Headlights won't turn off. - was: Need some help plz!!!
Hi all,
My supra headlights won't turn off even when the engine is turned off and the dash lights and other driving lights won't come on either. But fog lights work and interior lights work as well. I have checked all the fuses and everything is seems ok. But here is the weird thing after reconnecting the battery everything works again just for that one time and after that every craps out again. Any idea?? Thks in advance |

First get a young priest and an old priest!
your fog lights run their own wire. its connected to the headlights but just for power. ( I extremely simplified that) your headlights don't turn off with the engine even if they were working correctly, you have to manually toggle them on and off. your interior lights are not connected to your headlights at all. I would first say something about headlight relay or headlight switch. let me dig into this a tad and ill re-eddit with my findings. you mentioned that your dash lights do not come on. I would rule out switch.and go with relay. ill check into this more. http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...aspx?S=BE&P=17 is the tsrm trouble shooting.

Yes I manually toggled them off. When I say driving lights I mean none of my exterior lights come on, except for headlights n fog lights.

headlights up and on is what your experiencing all the time until you unplug your battery? when you toggle the switch all the way down. your headlights continue to stay on? hmm wish I knew a troubleshoot method to rule out relay and verify switch.
and none of your running lights come on at all. I would say relay! just guessing tho. but defiantly cheaper then the headlight switch i can't determine if its a switch issue or relay. Ill dig more but hopefully someone will chime in and set us straight. in the meantime ill search for it. here's a relay test http://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_d...ck_a_relay.htm

The relay is behind the hood release latch inside the dash, correct? So my dash light and driving lights are all tied with the switch?

yep. all from your headlight switch
well your instrument lights are controlled by a reostat. (dimmer) but do they turn on less either your running lights or headlights are on? no. they get power from the same place your headlights do. It's classic symptoms of faulty headlight switch. check your local junkyards. see if this link can yield anything http://car-part.com/ just a junk yard database. check Pullapart.com Oh and while replacing your switch be careful of that little spring. its a pain. I feel down about giving you bad news. Wish I could help more buddy. good luck.
