didn't see this in the FAQ....
I (like many) drool a gallon or two everytime I see a 93-98 Supra. Because its possible to "steal" a unit with substantial mileage (over 120K), me thinks that I'm gonna be itchin to swap/rebuild the motor before too long to get that brand new kick under the hood again. Is that anywhere close to accurate for the average unit? If not, are the motors available from Japan w/<50K miles and how does the $$ compare? Apples to apples, stock for jap stock on swap, and close to stock spec w/minimal changes on rebuild. I read a comment on groups.google.com that rebuilds are hell because of the twin cams...Lookin for the other side of the coin. Thanks in advance, KJ (Finally leaving Honda!!!!!!) -2000 Accord EX Coupe totalled by a drunk driver last night, no injuries & the car was for sale:D...Can't wait for the check... |
if i were you i would rebuild your motor... at least then you know the history and know it's gonna be a minta... you could get a jdm swap and find that someone has ran it out of oil or who knows what else
the twin cams aren't difficult to rebuild any more than a single cam... i really don't see them being difficult lol... maybe you should ask on that group why they think it's hard with two cams :P good luck with the motor :) |
Rebuild or swap con't Yes this is a good question. My MK IV has 135K but easy miles ie A/t and one blown turbo or switch. I was considering a "new" motor from Houston Toyota but they wanted my "core". Huh, no way. I also heard at the Las Vegas show that their were bad blocks out there being sold as new but apparently not manufactured right and cracking. I wanted a back up motor just to thrash and slowly rebuilt my motor. If a jdm was rebuilt then it would be a good block but probably overheated or run out of oil as was suggested. And the r and r time. May just rebuild orig -don
