1989 Supra alarm help... :(
I have a 1989 Supra with a factory alarm. Today I unlocked the car and the alarm goes off and won't let me start the car. I tried locking and unlocking it several times but the alarm won't disable and the car won't start.
How do I disable the alarm so I can drive it home? Last edited by sizzor; 10-09-2005 at 07:05 PM. |

hahaha im sorry i have to laugh because i remember i was in my hs parking lot and it did the same thing i didn't kno what was goin on. i was like whoa i got an alarm cool but it did it completely randomly i dunno about yours i have a 1991 and and i figured out if you unlock it from the inside (windows rolled down) and open it with outside it goes off. The fact that it won't let you start the car i think its a saftey device in case anybody breaks into your car they can't start it however when it happened to me i would just let it sit for about 5 mins not doing anything (messing with the locks won't do anything after 5mins) it should start. did you recently install a new battery cuz that makes the alarm go haywire too?

Did you use the key in the door lock??? You must use it to re-set the security system. Yes, you say??? Then did you try the passenger side?? If it worked on passenger side, then the switch in the drivers door is worn out or busted. If it did not work with passenger side either, then you'll have to trouble shoot the system using the online TSRM.
THe passenger side seldom goes bad because it is hardly used. |

All I did was pull the Dome light fuse and the car started right up. I got it home and rewired the dome light to the battery, now everything works great. I did some troubleshooting on the alarm wiring and the problem is in the alarm comp itself.
I'm going to install an after market alarm instead if replacing. I'm looking for one with remote door locks and starter, any suggestions??? |

Hey I been looking for an aftermarket alarm as well. Although I heard they stopped making remote starters for manual cars because if you forget and leave the car in gear it will keep stalling out until you turn it off. My friend had a 2001 Acura Integra and he got a remote starter only because it was already hooked up in the car when he bought it so he just had to wire it. You can check around but im pretty sure you won't be able to find someone who will install a remote starter in your supra i think the supra is jus too old. If you can lemme know how it works out

RE: Alarm System
I just had this problem today and here is the solution straight up from the dealer. I have an 89 and this worked. With the driver side door open, insert the key and turn it to the unlock position twice. This will reset the system and allow you to start your car. I was a nervous wreck all morning and left work early to try this solution. The dealer said he would send me some info on how to disable the security system and if he does I'll pass it on.

I noticed (albeit with a sigma aftermarket system, incidentally that has remote locking on the fob) that if you don't have a really good connection when jumping (or as with mine, a shorted battery cell dragging the booster voltage down) that the alarm didn't like it & kept shouting & locking/unlocking the doors etc.
