Advice needed for my new project
Hi there! I'm a long-time MR2 owner, and I'm aquiring a mk3 in a few days. It's a great chassie -- clean, straight, corosion free, great interior -- but the motor has a BHG. What's more, it has sat around with the oil/coolent sludge in the bottom end for the last 8-months. Questions:
1. Is there any chance the bottom end is OK? Or should I plan on a full rebuild or motor swap? 2. Is it cost effective for a DIYer to rebuild a 7mgte or should I just swap the motor? 3. If swaping is the way to go, where should I look for a motor? What vendors are recomended? Should I look for a wrecked car here in the states? 4. Finally, is there any such thing as a "JDM 7M-GTE?" I've seen a couple described that way on Ebay, but I was under the impression that Japanese MA70s had a different motor altogether (1jz). Are these obvious frauds, or am I mistaken? Thanks for your help! Matt |
from what ive been reading it may be ok on the toyotas, but i know other cars dont like antifreeze in the bearings, on these blocks i think its the over heating that can cause the wors problems, but when mine blew i stopped and towed it, and so i didnt overheat or get water in my oil?
2nd, dunno havent done a 7m block build or swap yet, 3th, there are lots of jdm engin place, i think mrnickleye has a list of sellers in the faq section i think? low milage would be one thing but you never know how it was driven or maintainance done.. i dont like JUNK yards 4th yes and lots of people like to swap to the 1jz but there just gluttons for punishment,,, lol just kidding, i wish i had one.. but i love my 7m.. |
Thanks joel, that helps.
As for my last question, I think you misunderstood. I'm askign if there is any such animal as a JDM 7mgte. Was that engine even sold in Japan? |
