New Cat Makes Big Difference

I have noticed that my car runs better with the new catalytic converter. I used to feel a "back-pressure" if I down-shifted too quick, almost like a jake-brake on a truck, but not anymore. You should have seen the shape of the old cat. At least half of it was totally missing, you could see straight through, and what was left of the material was in chunks and shaking around. Man, I'm suprised I didn't ruin anything else, or did I? Could some of that stuff have gotten into the muffler? Anyhow, thank you to everyone for their help during my "dilemna". Especially you Mr.Nickleye. I will try to go through inspection today and let you all know how it went.

Sincerely,

James in NJ

Sometimes so much cat 'guts' gets into the muffler, it will restrict the flow and cause too much fuel consumption, and engine over heating.
Do you have a straight thru muffler?? If so the cat guts just shoot on out.
