Default Stand or car...

I am trying to decide to either tune up the engine that is currently in my car, or if I should just get that one running strong and buy a new engine and put it ona stand for the tuning. This car is my daily driver. Also, I have found some places online to buy the 7M-GTE motor. But I have heard of an over-seas version that has twin turbos and only connects to a manual transmission which I plan to convert to on a later basis. So which do you all think I should go with...current engine in car...or buy an engine and put it on a stand and build from there?

i would say the twin turbo one you're thinking of is the 1jz as that's most commonly referred to....
as always i have a biased opinion.. get another 7mgte that's spun a rod slightly and rebuild it from the ground up

with the 1jz you have quite a bit of wiring to get it to work.... imo... those swaps for me are just too hard lol... alot of ppl are in the process of doing them but i like easy jobs hehe

I was thinking it was a 7MG motor, not the 1JZ, I would like to keep with the roots of my supra. Same engine models, no converstions, stuff like that. Where can I find an engine like that?

For that kinda question I would suggest starting your own thread, gets better results. I went and talked to mechanic about my BHG and he quoted me a price of any where between $2,000.00 and $2,500.00 just to replace the BHG and look at the head for damages. So I am just going to order a rebuilt 7MGTE block and head... it's about the same price and there is alot more done to it. Good luck on your rebuild if you decide to go that route. Don't know of any places to get a rebuild kit though. There is a post on here of all of the companies that provide parts for our cars called... http://kapasigma.com/

If this doesn't work, try going to the general questions area and go to the 2nd page, the post is called "I've put a little thing for you guys" by TRAFIK. Check it out, lots of sites..bound to be in there somewhere.

you could get a rebuilt head and gasket for under $600. i dont know what labor costs would be but it sounds like he was gonna rip you off.

With that info...seems like he may have been. But that was 2 different mechanics from 2 different places. So I dunno. Could be a locality thing. Where can I get that head and gasket? I was going to just go ahead with one of the strongest head gaskets I could find, think it's by HKS...a metal head gasket.
