Yes, that's an acceptable solution. In fact, if the 'blown' '94 engine only has piston/ring/cylinder damage, you don't need a whole '98 longblock with turbos...just get a 'shortblock' from Toyota ($2500 or less) and bolt your '94 head onto it.

You can find out exactly what's wrong with the blown engine by doing a leakdown test on it.

If you ask a shop experienced with the Mkiv Supra Turbo to do this swap for you, they'll probably charge you somewhere between 30 and 40 hours of labor. (Probably about $3K in labor) ...and yes, it really does take that many hours of hard work to do this swap properly.

The only difference between the two shortblocks is very minor: the size & thread pattern of the hole in the block for the oil pressure sensor (i.e. the '98 oil pressure sensor is different), and Toyota sells an adapter to address this problem.
