overheating
Alright i just got my car back from the shop after it had a used engine put in. It gets kind of hot, well i think it gets hot, the gauge reads about half way or alittle below 3/4. That seems hot to me. I dont know if it is or not. This is after the mechanic made the little fan run all the time, other wise it would get hotter. I thought that was for the air conditioning? I am really confused on whats going on so any and all help would be appreciated.
Also next time i get paid i want to replace the clutch fan with a race flex fan and a thermostat that opens at 170* or 180*. |

take it back asap
don't let that temp get that high anymore you have a real problem and need to get it fixed make the repair shop chekc it out. adding fans and leaving fans on will only cover up the problem

I have taken it to 2 shops and both of them have said nothing was wrong. My question to you guys is what could be wrong? MY water pump is fine, thermostat works, and my block is not cloged.

I have 2 turbo supras and used to have a NA one, and they all ran on the warm side. I'm having a custom ($400) 3-row "high efficiency" radiator made for my 1990 right now. Interesting that Toyota added another AC fan in 1989 or '90, because my '88 only has 1 (electric).
My Supras ran hot at real low and real high speeds-running "normal" in low traffic wasn't a problem. IMO the stock rad. is way too small--but I'm in Arizona.

put a real gauge on it
you might not like seeing what 3/4 of the stock gauge equals =on a real gauge i use a 160 stat i have a fluidyne radiator it mostly stays around 180 - 190 are you pushing any water out anywhere ? my stock temp gauge has never worked correctly for the 10 years i've had my supra

No I am not leaking any water. I guess I could just be paranoid about seeing the gauge that high. On my truck the gauge never reaches half way. But I will take your advice. Thanks

it's bolted into the elbow turning down at the backside of the turbo
the turbo is on the exhaust side , you prolly have a heat shield all around it http://www.ddmcse.com/turbo/images/is_it_in_yet.JPG see the turbo in this pic ? the oxygen sensor would be right behind the turbo ..see the yellow clip hanging there ? thats where the sensor connects . heck now that i think about it . i have an extra one that i bought to troubleshoot .. stock from toyota is not cheap and never is
