unknown trouble light

this mourning when I started my car a light lit up on the very far left of my dash that kind of looked like some kind of filter, it stayed on for about five minutes then went out.I checked my haynes manual and the online tsrm and it is not listed, does anyone know what it is?

Thank you very much, I almost tore most of my hair out trying to figure out what that stupid symbol stood for.

my birdcage light came on the other day right after flushing the system and blasting water down in the overflow bottle with a pressure sprayer. Basically there is a float in the bottom of the tank and apparently it can get stuck now and then...so keep that in mind as well.

Also be aware that if that overflow light is coming on consistently, asking for more fluid on a regular bases this may be the first sign of a leak somewhere in your system. Not uncommon initial signs of a bad head gasket.

lately after driving a bit hard coolant has been coming from around the top of my rad where its crimped together, I've felt the coolant and it's not that hot so hopefully it's just a faulty rad cap and not a bhg.

Spudboy 06-04-2006 07:08 PM

Any leak in your coolant system (like a leak in the radiator cap) can make your car run hot. Liguids boil at a higher temp. when under pressure. Your coolant system when tight is under pressure. If you have a leak somewhere it is under less or no pressure causing the coolant to boil and not do it's job.
Running hot will cause, among other things, bhg's.
Change the cap NOW.
